Spectrum Fm Radio Canaries | Shooter Jennings Returns To Country With ‘Family Man’

Published April 2, 2012 by englishradiocanaries

imageShooter Jennings’ last album was the ambitious, critically acclaimed Black Ribbons, a bleak look at a futuristic world that found the son of country legend Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter teaming with horror-meister Stephen King.

“I meant to establish something my own that was different from my dad and the whole country thing,” Jennings tells Rolling Stone.

Having successfully achieved that goal, Jennings is back with a new album, Family Man, that firmly embraces his dad’s heritage and “the whole country thing.”

“I actually didn’t know this record was going to be so country,” he admits. “[But] after Black Ribbons, I kind of stripped it down to my roots as much as I possibly could. And I kind of went after something that was a little different. And it ended up being really rootsy kind of country sound, but it was something that I felt really comfortable doing. I’m really proud of this record.”

The collection was inspired by Jennings’ own life as a family man, being a father and husband (Jennings is married to actress Drea de Matteo of (The Sopranos), but it also took him very much back to his own dad.

“A record like this can only naturally bring me back to him. It’s like he’s around a lot more when I’m doing a record like this,” he says. “Taking on really the record as a whole by myself, producing it myself, writing everything, definitely causes me to think about him a lot more.”

And as he’s gotten older, Jennings finds himself empathizing quite a bit with his own dad. “Having kids and understanding myself, and understanding life, love and all the battles that go with that definitely has made me think about him,” he says. “It’s weird because my dad was such an awesome dad [and] I have a boy now, whose real name is Waylon. And I really wish that they had gotten to know him, but at the same time, it’s like, it’s been 10 years since my dad has been gone.”

Like other famous progeny in the musical world, Jennings has struggled to find his own identity and break away from the expectations of others. Between the artistic success of Black Ribbons and gaining more self confidence as he’s gotten older, Jennings doesn’t really care anymore what others think.

“I’m always influenced by my dad, you understand? [But] Black Ribbons is like the Jacob Dylan dance record or whatever,” he says, laughing. “That freed me up to care less if what I was going to do next was similar to what he was doing. [And] the older I’ve gotten, the less I’ve cared. And the less I’ve cared, the better what I’m doing has gotten. With this record, I definitely feel that I did something that was really true to who I am. And I definitely don’t feel pressure right now when it comes to my dad, and I don’t feel pressure when it comes to anything. I kind of feel liberated. I’m proud of that.”

Working on the new country album also allowed Jennings to be more involved in his dad’s legacy. “I’m immersed with a lot of things with my dad,” he says. One of those is a reported bio-pic, which Jennings says is coming along behind the scenes. “I have found a producer and a writer that I really like. And so we’re kind of in steps of trying to at least outline the script,” he says.

Jennings has a very specific idea of the time period he wants to cover. “Trying to get his whole life in a movie doesn’t really interest me. I’d rather it focus on really the heart of his life, which was that Nashville battle, and how he won that,” he says. “That’s kind of the important part of the story, so for me, I definitely don’t want to take it places like Ray and Walk the Line and stuff, where it’s just like him picking cotton all the way to the end in two hours.”

No one has been cast yet, but there have been names bandied about. One possibility that Jennings likes is actor Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker), who Jennings says “would probably make a pretty good choice.”

Don’t expect to see Jennings in the movie. Asked if he’ll have a part, he laughs and says, “I hope not. I’d like to be in a lot of the background stuff, the music and stuff like that. But I have no interest in actually being in it.”

Spectrum FM Radio Canaries | Jack Black proud of judo skills

Published March 28, 2012 by englishradiocanaries

imageJack Black likes to show off his judo moves when he performs on stage with his band.

The Tenacious D singer transfers what he has learnt at martial arts classes to his rock shows. The star describes ‘the tiger roll’ as one of his favourite stage tricks. ‘Oh yeah, I have a mini tiger roll,’ he told UK magazine Q.

‘I learned that move back in my judo class days; it’s a dive and then you go into a spinning somersault. There was a time where I felt that the show wasn’t complete without a mini tiger roll. It’s pretty powerful.’

The actor also addressed his demands as a big star, insisting he is easy to please. Jack and his bandmate Kyle Gass keep their demands to a minimum.

‘Do you know what I’ve always wanted? When I’m really dry, a bathtub full of moisturiser,’ he joked. ‘But we’re very low maintenance.’

The pair are releasing their latest album Rize of the Fenix in May, six years after their second record The Pick of Destiny.

‘It takes a while to write a masterpiece,’ the pair explained of the hiatus.

English Radio Station Canaries| Katy Perry ‘offered memoir deal’

Published March 13, 2012 by englishradiocanaries

Katy Perry has been offered a £2 million deal to write a tell-all book about her life.

The 27-year-old singer is believed to have been approached by three publishing companies, who are all battling it out to secure a deal. It is believed the tome would offer a revealing insight into her failed marriage to British comic star Russell Brand.

“When everything was going well, Katy couldn’t stop talking about him,’ a source told British newspaper The Sun. “Since the split neither of them have said anything ‘ keeping the price of a deal high.”

Katy and Russell began dating in 2009 and got engaged following a whirlwind romance. The pair tied the knot in a traditional Hindu ceremony in India in October 2010. However, just 14 months later Russell filed for divorce citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.

It has been speculated that Russell became frustrated with Katy’s partying and they rarely spent time together due to their hectic work schedules.

Russell has previously released two books about his life. The former drug addict and womaniser is also believed to be working on a third tome, which is expected to cover the breakdown of his marriage.

Last year, it was reported that Katy’s mother Mary Perry Hudson was planning to write a tell-all book. Mary runs a Christian ministry in California with her husband Keith and has previously revealed she didn’t approve of Katy’s raunchy song I Kissed a Girl.

Meanwhile, Russell is believed to have been named in a police report in Los Angeles.

A paparazzo alleges the 36-year-old actor snatched his cell phone and hurled it through the window of an abandoned building.

Photographer Timothy Jackson reportedly filed a report claiming ‘criminal damages’ on Monday.

Spectrum Fm Canaries | Guns N’ Roses return for UK for May tour

Published February 27, 2012 by englishradiocanaries

One of the greatest rock bands of all time is back with the most anticipated tour of 2012. After selling out arenas around the globe in 2011, Guns N’ Roses ‘ ‘the most dangerous band in the world’ – are storming the UK this Spring.

It all coincides with the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an honour they nabbed as soon as they were eligible. And, as with everything related to Axl Rose and his cohorts, this tour is guaranteed to cause a stir.

Never far from controversy, but always true to the music, GNR are still the most talked about hard rock band of the past 20 years.
G ‘n’ R will be taking the ‘Night train’ to travel the country with gigs in Paradise cities Nottingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and London in May. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 2nd March through www.aeglive.co.uk

Tour dates:
19 May Nottingham Arena
20 May Liverpool Echo Arena
23 May Newcastle Metro
25 May Glasgow SECC
26 May Birmingham LG Arena
29 May Manchester Arena
31 May London The O2

In a career spanning more than two decades, Guns N’ Roses have become one of the biggest bands, not only in the world, but in musical (and more importantly, rock ‘n’ roll) history. They have sold over 100 million albums worldwide and are considered one of the most influential rock bands the world has ever seen.

After rising to fame in the late 80′s and gaining worldwide recognition with their hit single Sweet Child of Mine in 1988, the band went on to release five albums including the double Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II which was the first in history to walk off with both top spots on the Billboard chart. VHI has also named Welcome to the Jungle ‘Best Hard Rock Song’ – a fitting accolade for such a rock anthem. Guns N’ Roses’ most recent release, and fifth studio album, Chinese Democracy went straight to the top of the charts in thirteen countries, as well as going platinum in 15.

The band’s live shows are always hotly anticipated and demand for tickets is never less than overwhelming, showing that their longevity in the spotlight is by no mistake and is very-much deserved. Don’t miss your change to witness the legendary Axl Rose and co live in the UK.

English Radio Spain Canaries | Neil Young & Crazy Horse to Make Live Return at Paul McCartney Tribute

Published February 7, 2012 by englishradiocanaries

Neil Young and Crazy Horse are going to play at the MusicCares Person of the Year Gala honoring Paul McCartney on February 10th at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Other acts on the bill of the Grammy weekend charity concert include Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, James Taylor, Alison Krauss, Tony Bennett, the cast of the Beatles LOVE, and McCartney himself. Eddie Izzard will host.

This will be Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s first public performance since the Greendale tour wrapped up in March 2004. The group has reportedly wrapped up work on a new studio album, and just recently they posted a newly recorded 37-minute jam on Neil Young’s official website that wraps up with an epic rendition of “Cortez The Killer.” There’s no word about a tour for the group, but it’s probably a safe bet that they’ll hit the road at some point this year.

Neil Young toured with Crazy Horse regularly between their formation in 1969 and the Greendale tour of 2003/04, but over the past eight years Young has turned his attention towards other projects. Many fans worried that the group would never tour again, but Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina recently wrote on his Facebook wall that he had no such fears. “We were just grazing,” he wrote. “But never gone!”
